Today Is Your Lucky Day

You choose your life and the way it ends up depends on the path you walk. Many people think of life as if the event that happened today has nothing to do with yesterday. Ending up happy and abundant with marriage today is the effect of long sacrifice and patience of yesterdays. Having a work that you love and pays well today is the output of yesterday’s determination and aggressiveness. It’s not your lucky stars today, nor is it the lucky date of the year today. Today is the day you begun your choice of life.
Follow your dreams. If you are happy being an artist but your family thinks otherwise, follow your heart. You will never have the fulfillment unless you are happy with what you are doing. Being practical does not necessarily mean you leave your dreams, you just consider for a while something that will meet the needs for the moment. But in the end you will have to follow what will make you happy. Consider the life of inventors. At first they were mock but after years of loving their craft they were able to innovate something that made a great impact to the world.
Be active. Use words like ‘I can, I will, I must’. These words have great impact to the life changes you want. Every time you feel like giving up, say ‘I can’. And if you think you’re not fit to the success you want say ‘I will’. If the difficulties points you to giving up and surrender, say ‘I must’. These words are the words whispered by people who have gained a lot and achieve big.
Everything is good. We are blessed with a planet that provides all the things we needed. And by nature we are created good and kind. So if the person next to you is moody and angry, try to think of the goodness he has. Don’t let one person ruin the rest of your day.
Make a difference. No matter how small or little effort you made it has an impact to someone. When you say ‘good morning’ to someone you have brighten his day. When you hug or kiss your toddler you made his day happy. When you feed your fish you meet its need. That little effort is something to anyone. Touching every one’s life around you will make a big difference.
Luck is for people who believe in good things. It is a word people hold unto when everything seems bad. It’s good to feel lucky. Because if you think you are lucky, it only means you have followed your heart, you are optimist and you have made a difference to someone’s life today. Today is your lucky day, start by being one to everyone.

Not That Lucky $11.18 Two Tons of Steel has been one of San Antonio’s biggest bands for almost two decades. Most of the players have been holding down day jobs, which has hampered their fortunes outside of the Lone Star State, but their annual “Two Ton Tuesdays,” a summer residency at Gruene Hall, one of the state’s best-known dancehalls, have been selling out the club for more than a decade. The band lives up to its name with a sound that could almost be called heavy metal country, a larger than life vibe marked by Dennis Fallon’s twang-heavy guitar and the passionate vocals of singer, songwriter, and frontman Kevin Geil. Geil writes tunes that jump out of the speakers and grab you around the neck with the force of a lonesome drunk in a smoky, Saturday night honky tonk. He shows off his songwriting chutzpah early on by referencing Elvis Presley on “Hold Over Me,” a tough country-rock love song. Most writers who to try to get mileage out of dropping the King’s name tend to get overly sentimental and maudlin. Geil’s irony and Fallon’s crunchy, electric 12-string guitar save the tune from the usual excesses. When Geil says he was “singing songs just like Elvis” he’s so full of rock swagger that he pulls it off — and he also doesn’t try to ape Presley’s vocal style — always a good thing. The band tops off the arrangement with a “yeah, yeah, yeah” quote from the Beatles. That takes confidence and audacity, and these guys have both. There isn’t a weak track on the record. They open the album with the Bakersfield-flavored rockabilly rave-up “Cryin’ Eyes,” and include the surf boogie of “Not That Lucky,” the big moody love song “Run to You,” the slap bass-heavy rocker “Wanna Dance,” and the punky country of the sizzling “Bad Attitude.” They cover Fred Eaglesmith’s ode to Hank Williams, Sr. “Alcohol and Pills,” and make it sound like an original, and play Tom Gillam’s “Bottom of the Bottle” with a flair worthy of Bob Wills. Not That Lucky was produced by Lloyd Maines, who gives the tunes some sharp studio polish without diminishing the band’s considerable energy. Lucky $12.78 Hans Teuber has been a mainstay on the Northwest jazz scene for more than ten years working with Jeff Johnson, Clay Giberson, and other others who lean toward progressive and contemporary jazz. On his first album as a soloist, Teuber relies on his compositions as the framework for his work on alto and tenor saxophone, flute, and clarinet. His orchestrations are engaging pieces of work without becoming raucous or loud. They naturally tend to frame his considerable fluency and facility with the horns, especially the alto which he seems to favor, such as on “More Illusions” where his alto lays down the playing line while members of the rhythm section dart around like bees buzzing around a nest. In contrast, still on alto, “C Minor Waltz uses more abstract figures. The waltz in the title must refer to a state of mind rather than the time in which the piece is played, which is not 3/4. Paul Meyers is the star of this track with bluesy statements coming from his guitar. “B.C.” opens with Teuber’s feathery flute giving impressions of a sylvan setting before seguing in somewhat of a controlled, creative free for all with one instrument playing against another. “Bom Pra Caramba” is the result of modern creative jazz ideas applied to a Latin beat. The tenor comes into play on “Old Fellow,” giving the music a dreamy aura as Santi Debriano shows imagination on a lengthy bass solo. While the music on this CD is quite pretty, one wishes there were a bit more diversity. After a while, a certain sameness creeps in, which is always a risk when the musical agenda is prepared by the same person.
